About Steve

Originally from the South side of Chicago, by the age of 17 Steve was already attending the University of Illinois in Champaign-Urbana, and received his BA at age 20. Ten months later, he received his MA at Arizona State University.  After finding law school at American University in Washington DC to be a disappointment, he returned to Arizona State to get his PhD in Political Science, with a focus on Public Law.  His dissertation focused on State Compensation to the Victims of Violent Crimes, and largely was the result of research as a Fulbright Scholar to New Zealand. While in Wellington at Victoria University, he recommended changes to the New Zealand victim compensation program which were adopted through legislation passed the year after he left.

After obtaining his PhD and moving to California to join a survey research firm as a senior research associate to conduct political survey research for candidates throughout the United States, Chapman University offered him a chance to teach college courses to sailors overseas aboard military ships in hostile waters.  That opportunity led to teaching throughout the Pacific for several years aboard many aircraft carriers, guided missile frigates, and replenishment ships. He even taught twice on a submarine tender in Guam.  Among the “perks” during those years were catapult shots, arrested landings off of aircraft carriers, hundreds of hours in helicopters doing plane guard, and getting shot off the deck of an aircraft carrier in an F-4 Phantom fighter jet (the thrill of his life).  Like all good things, his overseas teaching stints came to an end when he decided to return to California and teach Political Science as an adjunct professor for over fifteen years at Cal State Long Beach.  During that time he began what would become a life long journey navigating the torrential waters of the Orange County Real Estate Market as an agent, eventually finding a ‘home’ with@Vantage Real Estate.

Looking back over the many years only seems to encourage him to look forward to the next decade, saying, “I’m going to need a longer list… or a bigger bucket!  Life has been very, very good.”  From attending the Republican Convention in Chicago as a student to eight years later when he attended the notorious Democratic Convention in Chicago.  Between the circus inside the convention hall and the riots outside in Lincoln and Grant Park(s), including “complimentary” tear gas, Steve had a first-hand encounter with some of the realities of Politics. On the brighter side, thanks to the work he did on Capitol Hill, he got to sit ‘Senate Side’ at Lyndon Johnson’s Inauguration.

Those events have had a powerful and lasting impression on him.

He has had a chance to see more of the world than anyone he knows personally, adding, that it “has only whetted [his] appetite for much more.”  To mention just a few, he has: motored through part of New Guinea in a four wheel drive; visited Midway Island; snorkeled in Guam; seen the Acropolis at dusk; heard Opera at the Bastille in Paris; marveled at the sheer beauty of thousands upon thousands of  cherry trees in full bloom in Ueno Park in Tokyo; attended the Closing Ceremonies of the Olympics in Los Angeles (with great seats); cheered on the Angels at the sixth game of their World Series from right behind home plate; landed on snow drifts on the Tasman Glacier in the South Island of New Zealand; guided a tour through part of China; wandered through a poisonous snake temple in Penang, Malaysia; played chess in Isfahan, Persia; crossed the Khyber Pass twice in Afghanistan; been to Angkor Wat in Cambodia several times; river rafted in northern Thailand near the Laotian border; camped out with Berbers in the South of Morocco after joining their camel caravan; climbed to the top of Ayers Rock (Uluru) in the Outback of Australia; camped out through some three thousand miles of the Outback; spent a week riding camels in and around the valleys near Petra, Jordan; celebrated the Millennium in Bethlehem just before the Intifada (it was tense); delighted in fields of lavender in Provence; marveled at the drawings in Tutankhamun’s tomb; seen giraffes at Tsavo National Park in Kenya; camped on Navajo reservations; hiked to the bottom of the Grand Canyon and out in a day; attended night ceremonies in temples in Bali; sold stories and photos of trips to Kathmandu and other exotic spots; flown over and walked out onto  the cataracts Iguazu on the Parana River in Northern Argentina; broken into one the National Parks in Mexico with some friends at midnight and climbed to the top of the great Mayan ruins at Chichén Itzá; gone horse backing in the forests of Northern Russia; seemingly floated toward the Taj Mahal at dusk; journeyed recently through Central Europe, and just zip lined Costa Rica, and looked into a very active volcano in Nicaragua  .

Steve also is a Lifetime member of the Screen Actors Guild and has appeared in several television commercials.

However, it has been his ongoing  involvement with real estate that has made his life as challenging and enriching as it has been.  Everyday there is a new opportunity to help, to teach, and to enable others to also fulfill their dreams.  What a privilege to find the right home for a family, or help them move.  He reflects that his life has prepared him to relate to almost any one.

One can study for an entire lifetime and barely scratch the surface of what is to be learned.  But what a joy is a life of learning!   A Mission Viejo resident for over 30 years, Steve Price has lived an exciting and adventurous life.
